Author John Matthews’ writing career resembles a three-act play. Act One: During his twenties, John wrote his first two novels: Basikasingo and Crescents of the Moon. Both were published in London and sold more than 100,000 copies each. Then John became distracted by other ventures involving journalism, editing, and consulting. He didn’t complete another novel for 15 years.

matthewsAct Two: John returned in 1999 with his strongest novel yet, Past Imperfect (which tops today’s Buffet). This page-turner, which combines a legal and crime thriller, love story, and family saga, sold more than 500,000 copies in paperback, convincing John to return to full-time fiction writing. He followed a similar “John Grisham meets Stephen King” formula for his following three books, The Last Witness, The Shadow Chaser and Ascension Day.

Act Three: Recently John has been reviving his backlist on the Kindle while creating new stories intended for book, film, and TV adaptation. Most recently, he’s has been working on a series of crime-detective stories set in 1890s New York, the first of which involves Jack the Ripper: Letters From a Murderer will be published in September.

John lives in Surrey, England, with his wife and son.

Sloppy Seconds: The Tucker Max Leftovers

Tucker Max’s books are a uniquely engaging trilogy composed of his best, craziest stories. As a thank you to those who have loved the stories and supported him for so long, Tucker has gone back through his massive archive of material one last time, culled out what you might call the “best of the rest,” and arranged it here, in Sloppy Seconds, like a book version of “Deleted Scenes.”

Unlike most deleted scenes, however, these don’t suck. So enjoy.
