maggieYou might know Maggie Shayne as a New York Times bestselling romance author and RITA award winner, but did you know that she’s also a practicing Witch? Indeed, Maggie is a High Priestess and licensed Wicca minister who studied in the Black Forest Circle Seminary for three years.

Maggie grew up in a rural area near Syracuse, New York. In the 1980s, her writing ambitions prompted her to take a job watching a neighbor’s horses so she could earn enough money to buy her first typewriter. She quickly finished three manuscripts but couldn’t find a publisher. Her fortune changed in the early 1990s when Harlequin launched its paranormal line, Silhouette Shadows. Her debut, Twilight Phantasies, kicked off her popular “Wings in the Night” series of 23 books.

At the top of today’s Buffet is Maggie’s 1994 classic Forgotten Vows, her first serial-killer story featuring the dreaded “Syracuse Slasher.”

Maggie has numerous writing credits besides her 50 books and dozens of novellas — she’s been an advice columnist and has written many scripts for TV soaps, such as The Guiding Light and As the World Turns.

In October Maggie launched her “Portal” series with Mark of the Witch. Although she uses some of her witchcraft research in her novels, the storylines and descriptions are entirely fictional. However, she’s currently finishing up her first nonfiction book, The Magick of the Witches, which includes real spells and rituals to enhance anyone’s practice.

Forgotten Vows (A Maggie Shayne Classic)

Ash is a slightly claustrophobic investigative reporter on the trail of a serial killer, who thinks his Ms. Right is Suzy Homemaker. As part of his investigation, he’s pretending to have amnesia. Joey is a Harley-riding psychic with a penchant for caves and a vested interest in catching the same killer. As part of her investigation, she’s pretending to be Ash’s wife.

Neither can admit the truth, nor deny the passion that flares with every touch, and might just cost them their lives.
