He was a pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction and was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild<\/em> and White Fang<\/em>\u00a0(which tops today’s Buffet), both set in the Klondike Gold Rush. This classic adventure story is about the friendship developed between a Yukon gold hunter and the mixed dog-wolf he rescues from the hands of a man who mistreats him. White Fang<\/em> is a companion novel and thematic mirror to The Call of the Wild.<\/em><\/p>\n

London was born in San Francisco. In 1885, he\u00a0found and read Ouida’s long Victorian novel Signa.<\/em> He credited this as the seed of his literary success.<\/p>\n
