Anna Sewell (1820 \u2013 1878) was an English writer best known as the author of the classic novel Black Beauty<\/em>. A Kindle edition that normally costs a dollar tops today’s Buffet.<\/p>\n

\"anna\"<\/a>When Anna was 14,\u00a0she slipped while walking home from school and severely injured both of her ankles. For the rest of her life she was unable to stand without a crutch or to walk for any length of time. For greater mobility, she frequently used horse-drawn carriages, which contributed to her love of horses and concern for the humane treatment of animals.<\/p>\n

Black Beauty<\/em>, Anna’s only novel, was composed in the last years of her life. The book became an immediate bestseller, and Anna died\u00a0just five months after its publication. With more than 50 million copies sold, it’s is one of the bestselling books of all time.\u00a0Although it’s now considered a children’s classic, Anna intended the book for people who work with horses.<\/p>\n
