Wallace Wattles (1860\u20131911) was a New Thought writer best known for his\u00a01910 book The Science of Getting Rich<\/em>, in which he explains how to become wealthy. Wattle’s book was the inspiration for the recent blockbuster motivational film and book “The Secret,” according to author Rhonda Byrne.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wallace grew up on a farm in Nunda Township, Illinois, and worked as a farm laborer.\u00a0He studied the writings of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Ralph Waldo Emerson.\u00a0Through his personal study and experimentation, Wattles claimed to have discovered the truth of New Thought principles and put them into practice in his own life. He\u00a0practiced the technique of “creative visualization,” in which he formed a mental picture, then worked toward the realization of the vision.<\/p>\n
