Follow the link below to see photos of more great collectible paperbacks. While the trade in rare and antiquarian hardcover books is a mature business, the world of paperbacks is young and lively. I expect prices will continue to rise for the most desirable titles as new collectors, frozen out of the market for classic [...]

If a book is old, is it rare? Collectible?

The general belief is that if a book is old it must then be rare… Books can be collectible without being rare. These would be titles or authors that have resonance with the collector. Fight Club and first editions or signed editions from the Twilight saga are examples of collectible books. via Powell’s Books – [...]

Without much explanation, they’ve dropped the requirement. I’ve never seen Amazon back off a proposed policy change as quickly as this one. Both sides have some merit. Pro-Merchants, on average, [...]

Last week, they published this warning that sellers must apply for pre-approval to list collectibles such as signed books, first editions, etc. This is a “category” approval, the same red tape you’d face if you began selling toys on Amazon during the Christmas season. [...]

QUESTION: There have been a few books in the news recently from authors who claimed that the events they wrote about in their memoirs were true when in fact they were fictionalized. Recently one was said to be “recalled” by the publisher. If you can find copies, perhaps these are good books to invest in [...]

Guy Weller over at the Bookshop Blog has some advice for those who use Amazon, eBay and AbeBooks to list their used and rare books: Take a hike! These megasites are “dictating far too much to us as to how we should fashion our listings, and how we should list on their sites … This [...]
