I could not believe my eyes when I saw this story on AuctionBytes about eBay’s Browser Highlighter download software. As the article indicates, it “allows integration of listings within product and search pages on competing websites, including Amazon and Google.”
Amazon is going to have these guys in court within weeks, that’s my prediction (for what it’s worth). I’ve seen lots of software like this that does comparison shopping, but it’s always with an affiliate arrangement. If I’m understanding this one correctly, it seems like eBay is trying to intercept customers — or at least, it looks dangerously close to that.
When you look at the official Web site, though, it only mentions Web real estate owned by eBay — Skype, PayPal and StumbleUpon.
Anyone heard of this before? It’s supposedly in beta, although it was mentioned on TechCrunch last fall.
