Half.com will revive its pre-order feature

Half.com announced it will bring back its pre-order feature. Buyers will be able to offer a fixed price for currently unavailable books:

For example, you could use Pre-Orders to state that you want to buy a new copy of the latest James Patterson book at $15 or less from a seller with 98% or greater positive feedback. Sellers can then look through these pre-orders during the Half.com listing process, as well as elsewhere, to see which ones they may be able to fill.

This is great news, if you ask me. Half.com didn’t have a pulse a few months ago, but now it looks like eBay is fully committed to it. I’ve also heard that Half is approving sellers for inventory bulk uploading again — another sign that things may improve at Half/eBay.

Here’s more information on how pre-orders work at Half.com. It’s not too different from the pre-ordering process at Amazon, something sellers call Buyers Waiting or “pending orders.”

I haven’t seen a “Buyer Waiting” in over a year.

I saw one three weeks ago.
I listed the book for 3X the buyer waiting number and it sold in a week.

We might take a renewed look at Half.com… eBay said something about Half.com inventory automatically being listed with eBay express (which we haven’t really looked at)… We started on Half.com back in 1998 and would have stayed if eBay had not bought them out and was determined to kill it (literally! They were going to pull the plug! But chickened out too late). Maybe, just maybe, it is time to consider selling thru Half.com again. Anyone have good luck with it these days?

    Briteday…

Half is doing OK by me generating about 30% of my total sales. Alibris is outselling them by 2-1, however, and I can get higher prices on Alibris. Please remember that inclusion on eBay Express isn’t automatic — you have to meet certain requirements and opt in.

I received the email about Half listings on Ebay Express and haven’t opted in yet. If you do opt in, will all the half listings show up in your ebay store? I sell things other than books and really don’t want all those half listings crowding my store. Has anyone opted in yet? Thanks
