Steve Weber started his home-based bookstore as a hobby in March 2001. Two months later, he quit his day job to sell full-time. In the meantime, he has sold more than $1 million of used books to buyers in all 50 states and in 31 foreign countries. In this new book, he tells you exactly how he did it, and how you can do it too.

What is this?

When a book (or video or CD) is in high demand and supply is low, a "buyer’s waiting" list is formed on Amazon Marketplace.

Every day, thousands of Amazon shoppers "pre-order" one of these scarce items, hoping that a seller will come along with a new or used copy for sale. These "waiting buyers" indicate the price they're willing to pay for the item, presenting a lucrative opportunity for sellers with an unwanted copy in their attic, or those lucky enough to find one at a weekend yard sale.

At the high end, this list shows an up-to-the-minute snapshot of the world's most highly sought-after collectible media items. On the low-priced end, you'll see more common items where demand has simply outstripped today's supply.

In the pre-Internet days, used bookshops kept a list like this, known as its "want list." If the customer was willing to spend enough, the shop owner would thumb through rare-book catalogs, or even place long-distance phone calls in hopes of finding a copy at another shop. Today this collectors' market is dynamically updated on Amazon's Web service system, and graphically displayed on this site for everyone to see.

This Web site displays "buyers waiting" lists in these categories:

Books

Music

Video

Games
