Amazon launches Kindle eBook store optimized for iPhone

When Amazon introduced its free Kindle eBook reader in March, there wasn’t an easy way to shop for Kindle books on the phone. Generally, shoppers had to switch to a desktop computer because Amazon’s regular PC site frequently makes the iPhone’s Safari browser crash. A stripped-down version of Amazon’s site released last year didn’t allow users to search the Kindle store.

So buying a Kindle book from iPhone has been a very cumbersome process. After two months, though, Amazon has rectified this. The Kindle iPhone reader’s “Get Books” button now opens Safari to a Kindle Store optimized for the iPhone.

“The most common feedback we heard from customers was that they wanted a better experience for purchasing new Kindle books from their iPhones,” said Ian Freed, Amazon’s vice president for Kindle. “We’ve been working hard to respond to that feedback with a new web site optimized for Safari on iPhone and we’re excited to do that today.”
