Free software tracks Amazon sales ranks

I’m addicted to monitoring the Amazon Sales Ranks of my favorite books. Now, instead of refreshing various Web pages dozens of times each day looking for an update, I’m using a new software program called “Amazon Sales Rank Watcher.” It’s a nice little tool being offered free by a startup computer-publishing company in Washington state, Paradoxal Press.

The software allows you to search for books and other products listed on Amazon Marketplace by ISBN or keywords. You can quickly add your selections to your tracking list and indicate how often you’d like to poll for the sales rank. Rank Watcher uses the results to plot a chart, just like a stock graph. But instead of a rising line like you hope to see with a stock, you’ll want to see a plunging line for Amazon Sales Ranks as — hopefully — your book heads toward the number-one position at the bottom.

The software can track sales ranks on weekly, monthly or annual intervals, and you can save and print your charts. If you’re using an older computer, you may need to download download .NET from Microsoft’s Web site.
